DIY Christmas Decors - Day 5 & 6 Preview

Welcome to the Jinky's Crafts 12 Days of Christmas
3rd Edition (2012 Edition)

Hello fellow Crafters! Do you want to have unique DIY Christmas decor this year? Our Day 5 & 6 showcase 2 different Christmas decoration projects that you can make.

For the Day 5 project, you can create a DIY CONE CHRISTMAS TREE. This Cone shaped styro foam is covered with fabric flowers, and is really simple for you to make once you know how. I really love the final product, it is very unique and beautiful. I always love to incorporate fabric with papercrafts. They complement each other perfectly.

For the Day 6 project, you will learn how to make a FILE FOLDER ORGANIZER W/ DRAWER. You know me, I am known for my Exploding Boxes so I have to include boxes and drawers in my 3rd Edition Christmas Craft E-Book.

The complete instructions + dimensions + the step-by-step photo tutorial of both projects will be available in the 12 Days of Christmas Crafts E-Book -3rd Edition. And just like last year, the 3rd Edition E-Book price will be $16.95, That's less than $1.42/tutorial! That's 70% off the price of the cheapest tutorial we sell if it is purchased separately.

Song Birds Paper Wreath

Hello everyone! When I received my Creative Imaginations designer papers, I knew exactly what I was going to do for my MayArts post. I decided to make a Paper Wreath using MayArts Ribbons and the Song Birds Creative Imagination designer paper.

Song Birds Paper Wreath Image

The ribbons I used to wrap my Styrofoam is my stash from my Spring Topiary project. I did not have enough of one color to wrap the whole area of the Styrofoam wreath so I decided to mix all of the different colors I have. I think it's very colorful and pretty.

I cut the outline of my bird image from the Song Birds collections from Creative Imagination. I created my 3D Sunflower using my Cricut machine. I applied some wet glue in the middle and poured ground coffee to make the improvised center of my sunflower. My wreath does not smell like sunflowers.  It smells like coffee! lol!

Can you believe that I whipped this up in just 15 minutes?! Yes ladies, This project is super easy, super cheap, and so much fun to do. Try this yourself and I know it will surely brighten up your front door and it is a cheery image to come home to.

 Materials used :
May Arts Ribbons (349-47, 349-46, 349-22, 349-27, 349-28, 363-10)

Holiday Burlap Napkin Ring Tutorial

Hello every one, Here's a quick and easy project for you this holiday season. It's a Burlap Napkin Ring.
It is a very inexpensive project but it will definitely help you on your Holiday Tablescapes this season.

Since this is a super easy and inexpensive project, you easily do different rings for different occasions. Just change the color and cut-out design that will fit into your theme. Have you checked how much a napkin ring costs in a retail store lately?  They are not cheap. Why not create your own handmade Christmas Napkin Ring this season and save some dollar$ !

These are so cute, they look like cupcakes or chocolates. I made these napkin rings for our Ladies Christmas Luncheon Party next week. Our host asked me to help her on the decoration and tablescapes. She is into Nativity scenes so I thought a Star Napkin Rings will be perfect for her theme.

Please find the tutorial on how I made this DIY Napkin Rings below. Thanks for stopping by my blog and hope I inspired you today!

Ribbon Art Canvas

Hi Everyone! Finally, I can show my first project I designed for MayArts as one of their official May Arts DT Member. I am excited to share some Ribbon Art Canvases I created using MayArts Ribbons and the Stampendous Jumbo Peony Stamps. I was inspired with some Fabric Art Canvases I saw online so I decided to try it with ribbons. I love to incorporate 3D items that are functional in my projects, that's why I make sure that there are 3D objects on these Ribbon Art Canvases.

Series of Ribbon Art Canvasses

I enjoyed working on this Art Canvas. The combination of MayArts Ribbons and Stampendous Stamps is perfect.

Don't you just love my 3D Stamp Peony Flower? It looks so real, beautiful and Jumbo! I love it !  To get more realistic look, shape your flower cut-outs using a bone folder and use a 3-dimensional adhesive when you create your layers.

Closer look of 3D Peony Flower
Supplies:

A piece of pre-stretched canvas (I used 3 pieces)
Acrylic Paint
Paint brush
Stampendous Cling Jumbo Peony Stamp Set
Stampendous Jumbo Perfectly Clear Handle
Stamp Ink Pad (I used Eggplant Purple & Cameo Pink)
Versa Mark Ink Pad
Embossing Powder
Heat Gun
Adhesive Spray
3D Foam Dots/ 3D Silicone Glue
Sponge Daubers
Sewing Machine(optional)

  1. Paint up your canvas using a color that harmonizes with all of your ribbons.
  2. Cut enough ribbons depending on the design you want to achieve. Add enough length to each end to allow it to wrap around to the back of the canvas.
  3. Lay out the ribbons on the canvas to get an idea of the look you want to achieve. At this point, also decide on the placement of your stamp image if you are stamping your canvas.
  4. Stamp canvas, emboss and color depending on your liking. ( I did stamp my canvas using the Stampendous Cling Jumbo Peony Stamp Set+ Stampendous Jumbo Perfectly Clear Handle + Eggplant Purple ink pad . For the focal point, I used VersaMark Ink and heat emboss it.  I then  stamp more Peony image  on a textured paper and color ed it with Cameo Rose using the sponge dauber. I cut-out the flowers image from the textured paper and created a 3D Peony Flower.
  5. Spray adhesive directly at the backside of the ribbon and attach it to the canvas. Note: if you are covering the whole canvas with ribbons, it is more easier to spray the canvas with adhesive and lay your ribbons on the canvas.
  6. Optional: If you want to create a Ruffle Pleated ribbon. Just create pleates on the ribbon of your choice and sew a straight stitch.
  7. Attached the 3D Peony Cut-Outs right on top of your embossed flower. This is your focal image.
  8. Hang on your wall and admire!

I enjoyed making these Ribbon Art Canvases. I made a couple more. I think they are beautiful. I will try to make more with some hardware embellishments attached to it. And when I'm all finished I will hang it on my home office wall.

Pink & Black Ribbon Art Canvas
Give this awesome project a try . This is an inexpensive way to decorate a wall. You can even make a new look on every season or when you are tired of  the design. Just remove the ribbons and re-use them on other projects and start over!

Kanzashi Heart Wreath - MayArts Final DT Challenge Entry

This will be at the top of the post until May 31st.
Be sure to scroll down.

Hey Folks, the MayArts DT Challenge ain't over yet. If you remember, my Framed Ribbon Spring Flowers was selected in the initial round of Finalist for the Design Team Call for MayArts. This Kanzashi Heart Wreath is my entry to the last round Challenge. This time there was no theme.  I hope you like my entry and support me by voting for me. Stay tuned for MayArts official post for the FINAL ROUND entries.

I decided to make this Kanzashi Heart Wreath because I love the art of folding. The Kanzashi term- in the English-speaking world, refers to the folded-fabric-petal flower that traditionally adorned the Tsumami Kanzashi (folded hair ornament). These are created by Japanese artisans from tiny squares of silk, usually 1"- 4". It is folded into petals using origami techniques.

I really like how the twig (wrapped with velvet MayArts ribbon) gives my butterfly a nice place to rest.  I am actually amazed with all the different types of Kanzashi folding and Kanzashi flowers. In Japan, the seasons dictate which kind of hair ornament is worn. It is beautiful! Please scroll down for the  Basic Tutorial for Rounded Kanzashi Petal.

One of the traditional and main supplies used in Kanzashi flower construction is rice glue. I deviated from the traditional way by hand-stitching instead. This flower petal folding requires a lot of patience, but it is worth it.  I love how my Kanzashi flowers and  Kanzashi Falls came together. The summer colours are bright and cheery. This Kanzashi Heart Wreath will be a great home decor item for summer time.  And by using the tutorial provided below you can make hair accesories like a barrette, hair clip, necklace, brooch and many more..You can see some of my Kanzashi projects here.

All the ribbons used on this Challenge project were compliments of MayArts.

Pin Wheel Rosette Tutorial

Hi Folks! I am back with a tutorial on how to make this Pin Wheel Paper Rosette. Some of you have been sending me emails asking if I can make more tutorials using the Ultimate Crafter's Companion Tool. So here, I make a tutorial which is a cool project for you in time for the Spring season and for Mother's Day gifts.

This is super easy project. I used my Ultimate Crafter Companion Tool in making my Pin Wheel Rosettes. You can do so many variations with this. You can put 2 different colors of paper together or attached a ribbon at the edge like what I did here. I sewed a 3/8 inch of silk ribbon on one edge of my paper before I score it. Check the tutorial below so you can follow what I am saying. LOL!

If you want to know how I made these Red Mini Paper Rosettes sitting on top of my Pin Wheel Rosettes. You can check it here.

Framed Ribbon Spring Flowers

Finally, my project entry for the MayArts challenge is done~! I am so happy with the final outcome of this project. I am proud to present to you my Framed Ribbon Spring Flowers! Don't you just love how bright and beautiful everything looks in Springtime? I LOVE it!

Ribbon manipulation is new to me, but it is a new passion I have developed over the past few weeks. I love how paper and fabric complement each other.

All ribbons used on this Challenge project were compliments of MayArts. This is my entry for their DT Call Craft Challenge, which had a theme requirement of Spring Flowers. I used the Flat Rose and Spider Web techniques for my roses. I just learned how to do these while working on this project. You can find my Spider Web Fabric Flower Tutorial here.

May Arts Ribbon Used :

Leaves : SN48
Yellow Rose: HA27
Red Rose: HA14
Pink Rose: HA17
Brown Silk: HA33
Trim: 378-16

For those of you who know me, you probably know by now that I love 3D projects.  That is why I tried to make this in 3D. I cut some butterflies to adorn my Spring Flowers and weaved a basket which I intentionally raised to have that 3D effect.  I leave the top of the basket open so you can add some batting to poof it up or some moss (Sorry,  I don't have any handy).

This project makes a great home decor this Spring season or a great gift for Mother's Day.  That's why I included a Happy Mother's Day sentiment cut out on the frame.

This project is very easy. If I can do it being a newbie on ribbon folding, I bet you can to. C'mon give it a try~!

Thanks a lot for stopping by. If you like this post, please consider leaving a comment, SHARE this blog with your friends and colleagues or subscribe to my newsletter.

Valentine Chocolate Tower Gift Box

This Valentine Chocolate Tower Gift Box is from my 12 Days of Christmas Handmade Crafts E-book. Due to some requests, I have made a separate tutorial for this Chocolate Tower Gift Box. No need to buy the whole E-book anymore. If you want the step-by-step instructions and templates of  this cute Valentine Chocolate Tower Gift Box - good news is, you can

It took me 2 days (not straight) to think of a way to re-use this template for something other than chocolate packaging. I spent more time decorating this Tower Box, but I was happy when I finally stopped and said... That's it, I am DONE! Folks, I present to you the Day 9 of the  14 Days of Handmade Valentine Crafts.

I like how it all came together. The pathway/red carpet + fences + flowers + stairs leads to the gazebo which  serves as the focal point of this cute gift box. All of these are Cricut cutouts from the Freshly Picked Cricut Cartridge.  There's a lot of variation you can use in this gift box template. You can put some jewelry or candles inside. The possibilities are endless and it is very versatile, you can use on any theme party or occasion you may have.

The above photo are shots of  the different angle/sides of the box. The blossom, flower and the heart are from  Cricut Tie the Knot cartridge.

The box topper is a handmade flower using crepe paper. I love the pink + green + brown color combination.
There is still time to get crafty this Valentines Day. Get your templates and tutorial.

This is the Chocolate Tower Gift Box I made last Christmas. Valentines is time for  giving lots of chocolates because they signify romance. Be romantic and make your own handmade Valentine Chocolate Tower Gift Box. Check the tutorial and templates here.
